Fun facts about Microsoft Office [and others]

With the release of Microsoft Office 2010, we thought it would be fun to list a few “lesser known facts” about Office.  Why would you want to know Office trivia?  That’s a fair question. How about for some good ammunition for those early morning “chats” around the water cooler!  Read and enjoy!

  • The 1st version of Microsoft Word was released in 1984.  (I wonder if George Orwell would have approved.)
  • Microsoft Outlook 97 was originally codenamed: “Ren and Stimpy”.  (Why they named it after an asthmatic Chihuahua and a dimwitted cat, I have no idea.)
  • The average user of Microsoft Office reads 1,800 emails each month and deletes an average of 1,500 emails each month. (How do you compare?)
  • Your favorite animated BFF, “Clippy” was first introduced in the Office 97 suite.
  • More than 1 billion people worldwide rely on Microsoft Office to get things done at work, home and school. (Yes, that’s BILLION)

And completely unrelated but fun to know:

  • It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million listeners
  • It took television 13 years
  • It took the Internet 4 years

And Facebook?

  • In nine months Facebook added 100 million users.

(Powerful stuff…)

There you go. Now you know some facts about Microsoft Office that most of your co-workers don’t!  Have fun tomorrow morning!
